Another very interesting but quiet fortnight has flown by, Christmas will be here before we know it. The surrenders are coming in thick and fast, which is very sad but predicted. In fact we have had had hardly any adoptions this week at all which is also very sad. In the last 2 weeks we have had 32 animals desexed, and 53 vaccinated. On Sunday a litter of red Kelpie cross pups arrived. We wormed, chipped and vaccinated them on the same day. They are 7 weeks old.
We are still looking for volunteers. We are urgently in need of some handy people to help us renovate the dog cabins and cattery, this is really urgent. We have the second yard and cabin to renovate, a shed to build, the cattery to fix up and the outside enclosure to finish. We need to go through each yard, fix all the cabins including their ventilation systems and fence stays before the really hot weather hits us.
We are trying hard to find some people who can come regularly especially on the week-ends to help with the animals, especially now that Christmas is approaching and our regular volunteers are planning to see their families during the holiday period. We also really need some people who can help with the kennel maintenance as well. We still need to go through each yard, fix all the cabins including their ventilation systems and fence stays before the really hot weather hits us.
We urgently need to build a shed to house all our bushfire evacuation equipment we need to access quickly if we need to evacuate the animals for any reason. We have serviced the fire pump, checked hoses etc. but need to house the crates, cages, food bowls and buckets, litter trays etc. in readiness including PPE for the volunteers and first aid kit in readiness for a quick move. Last year we nearly had to move, it was cancelled when the wind changed, the year before we were evacuated to Trenyar.
Please spread the word as we really do need your help! It is puppy season and kitten season, the vet bill has been paid but it was big, and we still have pups and kittens to vaccinate and desex. We have most of the materials but not all to complete the kennel maintenance. Again we need help, any contribution large and small, everything counts. People can contribute either through PayPal using our email address happypawshaven@bigpond.com or via our bank, the Bendigo Community Bank in South Grafton BSB 633000, Account 130786031 and our account name is Happy Paws Haven Inc. All donations over $2 are tax deductible! Thank you. We are an ACNC endorsed registered charity! Our ABN is 79928920087, CFN 23496
If anyone who is in Grafton or nearby we really need help urgently! If you could help by asking if anyone is able to volunteer even just 3-4 hours on one day a week would be great! Maybe animal lovers who don’t have a family nearby, could come and spend time helping us with the animals at Happy Paws Haven. We are open 7 days a week as usual from 0930 to 1530, our hours are slightly shorter during winter as we put the animals to bed and rug the greyhounds. We urgently need additional volunteers to help us care for the animals, walk the dogs, groom the cats and to share their love. Dress in your oldest clothes, jeans and a T-shirt is good, with work boots or sneakers, bring a snack and a drink!
Cuddling and playing with the animals is compulsory! We need people to help with office data entry skills and admin skills. We need people to help with our fund raisers for the love animals.
There are all sorts of things that need to be done…And every bit of help counts! Come and visit to see what we do! Come and help us with the animals and/or fundraising for their care!

Rescues and surrenders
We are trying to limit the number of animals being rescued as you know! Our restrictions are not only financial but also due to vet availability. We are restricting our capacity to keep our numbers down due to Covid19 and the impact on our donations. Our numbers in care are being maintained, We have closed the doors as we are full!
Cats and kittens for adoption this week:
We get all cats vet checked prior to adoption to make sure that we comply to the standards required by any pet shop. We have adopted out well over 1200 cats over the last 12 years and only a very very small percentage having developed any illness as a result of the change in environment but now we are being extremely careful. All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. Our Rehoming number is R251000043
Kie came to us with her mother and 4 siblings early in 2017. Her mother was found on a vacant property with no form of identification and no one knowing where she came from so we called her Kinki as she had a kink in her tail and some of the offspring do too! Kie is a beautiful tabby and white teenager who has come from a lovely family as Kinki her mum is so very affectionate and she has taught all her babies to be too. She is extremely loving, gentle, active, playful young cat who has been desexed, vaccinated and micro-chipped ready for her new home as are her whole family. 991003000002504
Tirri and her two sisters were found in a park near some flats, they were taken to a pet shop who said they could not take then as they all have a twisted or kinked tail and were not perfectly normal kittens. The vet has said it is probably inherited and as it is not affecting our behaviour or our bodily functions we should be fine. They are a little shy when they first meet strangers but as soon as they get to know them they turn into beautiful affectionate smoochy cats. They are normal playful curious mischievous young cats. They have been desexed, micro-chipped and immunised ready to be adopted. 900079000382734
My name is Sancho and I was rescued with my brother and sister. We were found in the bush without our mother, some nice people looked high and low for her but she could not be found anywhere so we were bought to this nice place called Happy Paws Haven. We are normal playful affectionate kittens looking for a forever home. We have been vaccinated, microchipped immunised and treated regularly for all the normal parasites. 991003000593873
Now for the Dogs for adoption for this week:
We get all dogs vet checked prior to adoption to make sure that we comply to the standards required by any pet shop. All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. All dogs are also tested to make sure that they do not have heart worm. We have rescued and adopted out well over 1300 dogs over the last 12 years. Our Rehoming number is 251000043
Fia is one of a litter of eight, of which we received five in a very poor condition, every rib and the hip bones were showing. They said that they were already eight weeks old at the time but we knew from their teeth they were much younger. Today they are different dogs completely, healthy, nicely filled out, playful, friendly, normal naughty pups who have been desexed, immunised, microchipped and regularly treated for all the normal parasites. They are ready for puppy preschool and training, a family to be with and to continue their socialisation. Microchip ID: 991003000593864
Dash was a family pet and gets on with people and other dogs his own size, he is very anxious with bigger dogs as he is frightened of them. His owner works full time and did not have secure fencing to keep little Mr Dash in the yard Dash kept getting out to visit the other people in the neighbourhood. They lived on the corner of a very busy street. The owner was worried that he might get run over or become a nuisance so decided to put him up for adoption so he could go to an family with a secure back yard. Dash is a very friendly loving affectionate your man. We think he is a Jack Russel cross Foxie so needs a fully fenced yard and an active family to play with, it would be lovely if someone is around . He is desexed, chipped and immunised ready for his new home. 953010001283640
Scout came to us as a highly anxious dog, skin and bone. We put an anti-anxiety collar on him and gave him a friend to play with and he turned into a different dog. Scout needs a family, another female dog to play with who is smart and active, and someone who is home a lot. Boredom is his enemy. He is now a lovely happy boy who has put weight on. He would make a lovely assistance dog as he is very smart and gets on with everyone, a real all-rounder. He is desexed, chipped and immunised ready for his new home. 953010001258614
