Year 12 Sport, Lifestyle & Recreation- whitewater kayaking trip

On Thursday the 29th of March the Year 12 Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation class travelled to Nymboida to go whitewater kayaking.  The group had a fantastic time building on their flat-water kayaking skills they learnt during an 8-week kayaking program conducted at school. The whitewater rapids ranged between class 1 and class 2. Students began the day by going through the first rapid without their kayak, this ensured students felt comfortable in the water and understood the safety procedures. The 5km journey in their kayaks wound down the Nymboida River going through 12 different rapids. Our instructor, Gray, was a great help, sharing plenty of knowledge and teaching them different techniques to control their kayaks. There were plenty of smiles and stories to share about the trip on the bus ride home. We’d like to thank the Yaegl Aboriginal Land Council for lending us their bus, the Nymboida Canoe Centre for providing an instructor and Anj Warburton for helping out on the day. Mr Callan Obst
