Yamba’s Life Member, Shirley Drum’s, 90th Birthday

Tuesday October 12

And celebrate we did – with 20+ bowlers and a couple of old friends lunching together at the tables decorated in 90th Birthday style by Cheryl and her team of helpers.

President Bev presented Drummy with a beautifully crafted photo album (thanks Lucy Coulter) filled with moments from Drummy’s history with the Club (thanks to Wendy our jack-of-all-trades). After that it was time to cut the birthday cake suitably decorated for the occasion – and shared with all present.

Typically, Drummy – generous as ever – provided the guests with raffle prizes and some lucky ladies went home a little richer. Unfortunately, there was no social bowls on the day as it was bucketing down – but our little celebration filled in our day very nicely for us.

Thanks also to Debbie May for the lovely flowers.

The Royal Rink (Lyn Olsson Singles Challenge)

Our Queen of the Green competition has been renamed the Lyn Olsson Singles Challenge in honour of our other esteemed Life Member Lyn Olsson. Lyn has also been such so very supportive of our Club over the years and we are happy to have her as our sponsor for this event.

Last Wednesday October 6 there was another attack on the Palace when Monica Parker threw down the gauntlet in an attempt to wrest the honoured title from Marianne Jenner. But Queen Marianne managed to hang on to the coveted title for another day; score 25 – 17.

Then another attack from Jane Madden on Thursday 14 was fended off by Her Majesty and the Crown restored to its rightful place. The score there was 25 – 20. I hear a whisper that Judy Abbott is going to make a move to dethrone Queen Marianne next week.

Only three rinks of social bowls played alongside the Royal Rink – results as follows: – P. Mc Kenna, M. Stone, W. Ballantyne d B. Backshall, S. Moore, C. Ritale; P. Chilcott (swinger), M. McManus, H. Atkinson d P. Chilcott, M. Abbott, K. Mason and C. Aitchison, M. Sakac d L. Duncan, J. Coulter.

Jackpot was not won.

And we have another Bowler of the Month – the September award duly deserved by Monica Parker. Congratulations Monica – you are a great asset to our Club.
