Yamba’s Darrie Nightingale is guest at PNG award ceremony

Once again, the weather dampened our spirits last Wednesday with showers persisting throughout the morning; however, 29 ladies took to the course regardless.

As a result, most players found the conditions tough, especially on the back nine. Gail Gore-Brown was the best performer (31pts) followed by Jane Bonner (30pts c/b).

Our NTP sponsors and winners: Tech Lab 3rd – NA; Yamba Florist, Debbie May 3rd (2nd) – Jo Foley; Leonie May Millinery 9th (2nd) – Janelle Carpenter; Yamba Fair Butchery 10th – Kathy Parker; The Shoe Boutique 12th – Lyn Rowland; Clovelly Fashions, Maclean 17th – NA and The Wobbly Chook 17th (2nd) – Jacky Penfold. Balls were awarded to 28pts c/b.

Due to the weather and the large numbers of ladies who pulled out of Friday’s KENO round, the format was changed to a Single Stableford. In the end, only nine diehards contended with a gusty morning and areas of the back nine that were still challenging due to wet patches. Best on the day was Jennifer Fagan who shot 30pts to win. Jennifer also won the 2nd shot 9th hole NTP which is sponsored by Peter Campbell Physio. Leigh Robertson won the 3rd hole NTP, sponsored by Flots and Jets. Fiona Smart and Jennifer both won balls in the rundown (29pts). The KENO Round will be rescheduled.
It was a welcome sight to see blue sky for last Saturday’s ladies’ competition. Twelve ladies played and the winner was Fay Gimenez (32pts) ahead of Carol MacPherson (31pts c/b).

The NTP was won by Kathy Parker.

An upcoming event that may be of interest is the Byron Bay Lady Veterans’ Open Day to be held on June 16. The format will be Single Stableford. The entry fee of $50 includes green and competition fees as well as lunch. Entries close on June 7. For more details, please refer to the information flyer located in the ladies’ locker room.

Finally, we are all thrilled that our Ladies Champion and former PNG golf representative, Darrie Nightingale, will officiate as the guest speaker at the South Pacific Sports Awards (SPSA) later this month. Darrie, who is an avid and talented Yamba lady golfer, is the second PNG talent to feature as a guest speaker at the Awards Presentation Night. It will be a proud moment for Darrie and her family. Congratulations!
