Yamba Yabbies Toastmasters had a good roll up of members and one visitor, Monica, at the Monday February 15 meeting. Toastmaster Brendon chose ‘music’ as the theme and all members gave their favourite types of music. All roles were explained – Timer Caz, Meeting Listener Ilma, General Evaluator Jeanette and Grammarian Noel who gave “Aver – to declare psoitively” as the word of the night. A new segment was introduced – Review Time. Maureen reviewed an article from a magazine about a reformed ‘ice’ addict followed by Noel who reviewed a poem ‘The last Rose of Summer’ then Joy reviewed a cookbook ‘Cooking on the Move’. Beautiful recipes and equipment for serving delicious meals while camping. In the Speech Segment, we heard from Pam with another ‘Ice breaker’ titled ‘Pam’s Job and Travel’ and she was presented with a ribbon by VPE Jan C. This was followed by Monica with a poem she wrote titled “Get Stuffed”. It was hilarious! A call centre phoned about a funeral plan, but as her daughter was a taxidermist, strange things would happen to her body which would not be buried. Ilma and Deyann were the Evaluators. Ilma also celebrated a birthday in the break with platers of beautiful fruit rather than a cake. She was chuffed! Andrew was Table Topics Master for the first time and he used the theme to form the questions. Speakers in this impromptu section were: Jeanette, Caz, Noel, Ilma, Michael and Maureen with evaluators Jan C and Joy. Unfortunately/Unfortunately started by Brendon went quite well using alternate speakers. All executives attended training at Lismore on February 13. August 27 was the date chosen for a BBQ at Home Hardware. This will also feature a cake stall and a public relations day. More on this at a later date. Meetings are held 1st & 3rd Monday of the Month at Yamba Bowling Club commencing 7pm sharp. Visitors are always welcome. Please come along and see what toastmasters is all about.
