Winners of the Club Triples title for 2021 Julie Coulter, Kaye Mason, Wendy Ballantyne.

Yamba Women’s Triples played out during the week

Tuesday October 5

A fresh new month and edging closer to the end of our bowling year – today saw the catch-up game of Club triples alongside 22 ladies and gentlemen enjoying a day on the greens. Our mixed social days are well received and it’s great to see a reasonably good roll-up.

It was the Atkinson story when husband and wife duo Dave and Helen pitted against each other with Dave and his team of S. Farrar, G. Freeman conquering Helen and her team of B, Cross and L. Duncan.

But lucky to have a win and take home the bowlo bucks was team J. Madden, S. Butler d L. McLean, J. McGovern with Steve looking for a hat trick with the winner’s prize now two weeks in a row. Runners-up were M. Wall, R. McKibbin, R. Moore d M. McBey, M. Stone, M. Abbott and the Consolation went to V. Beddow (welcome home Vicki), M. Sakac and G. Davis d P. Maddison, S. Lindsay, C. Ritale.

In the triples it was J. Pryor, J. Abbott, C. Aitchison who move on to the semi-final after defeating J. Button (subbing for R. McPherson), M. Parker and M. Jenner 18 – 13.

Runners-up in the Club Triples Championship was the team of Joan Scadden, Lois Duncan, Julie Beaumont.

Thursday October 7

Only 10 social bowlers today playing alongside the final nine players in the Club Triples battling it out for a place in the final on Sunday October 10.

And the finalists are the team of J. Scadden, L. Duncan, J. Beaumont who, despite the valiant efforts of team M. Stone, G. Davis, M. Abbott won the game defying a late rally by Margaret’s team when they picked up 6 shots in the finishing ends and went on to a 19 – 12 win.

The other game was a nail-biter when team J. Pryor, J. Abbott, C. Aitchison got off to a slow start and were trailing by nine shots until the 8th end when they landed a few winning ends and by the 12th end were five shots in front. But their opposition team J. Coulter, K. Mason, W. Ballantyne were having none of that and managed to level the scores by the 18th end. Then it was over, and scores were level – an extra end was played and despite Cathryn’s team’s best effort Wendy and Co hung on for a three-shot win and their place in the final score 22 – 19.

On the social bowls front in Pairs M. McManus, J. Button d. J. Madden, S. Lindsay and in Triples – L. McLean, B. Backshall, C. Ritale d C. Cole, P. McKenna, V. Terry.

Great to see Chris Cole back after a long break after knee surgery.

Sunday October 11

The tail end of our Club Championships for 2021 was decided today with finalists Julie Coulter, Kaye Mason, Wendy Ballantyne up against Joan Scadden, Lois Duncan, Julie Beaumont. Conditions were a little tricky with a gusty wind prevailing – but it was Wendy’s team who steamed out for the first few ends with a six-shot lead.

But not to be outdone Julie and team fought back to within 1-shot on the 6th end. But after that Wendy and team managed to keep their noses in front and went on to a 20 – 16 win. Congratulations to all players and thanks to all umpires and officials throughout the competition.

Don’t forget – entries for the Shirley Drum Triples Challenge to be in by Thursday October 21 and also sheet on the ladies’ board for the Charity Day on Thursday November 4. And also look out for the entry sheets for the Consistency Singles on the board soon. The Christmas party list is also on the board.
