On Monday May 23 Yamba Veteran golfers played an 18 holes single Stableford in glorious Autumn conditions. The course was in perfect condition but if you strayed into the rough it was hard to get out.
We had a field of 54 starters which was made up of 34 men and 20 ladies. We had the company of visitors from Yawani, Singleton and our neighbouring club just across the water Iluka.
The men’s nett winner with a score of 36 points was Erik Pedder who won on a countback from the nett runner-up Terry Betts also with 36 points. Third placing went to Donald Roberts on 35 points.
The new nearest the pin allocations are working well and winners for the men were as follows. On the 3rd handicaps 0-36 Terry Crowe 41 cms, 9th 0-36 Des Hall 303 cms and on the 12th 25-36 Don Roberts 334 cms. Two holes, the 10th and 17th were not won. Ball rundown for men went to 31 points.
Now to the ladies. The nett winner with a score of 32 points was Lorraine Bentley. Good to see Lorraine back on course after some health problems. Nett runner-up with a score of 31 points was our evergreen Lucy Thompson. Third placing went to Lynne Donsworth also with 31 points.
Ball rundown for ladies went to 22 points.
Ladies nearest the pins were as follows: On the 3rd 0-35 Lorraine Bentley, 9th second shot 26-45 Lynne Donsworth, 12th 0-45 Kathie Smail and on the 17th second shot 26-45 Virginia Moore. The 10th hole had no winner.
The major raffle winner on the day was Alan Tatton with minor prizes going to Julie Vernol and Lucy Thompson.
