Monday August 15
Wonderful weather for our annual Blue Pacific Pairs and there were 30 teams from near and afar with an eye on the generous prizemoney and three rounds of twelve ends ahead of them.
It was a well-deserved win and hearty congratulations to Yamba’s Judy Abbott and Cathryn Aitchison after being ahead of the field at the lunch break and hanging on to win the day with 88pts / margin 43.
In second place it was an Iluka team – Lyn Briggs and Kaylene Toomey who took out the money only 2 points short of the winners – 86pts / 42.
In third place – a Ballina team – Janette Rhodes and Wendy Clarke with 85pts / 32.
Fourth went to a combination team – Glenda Ritchie (Warnambool Vic) and Yvonne Eckhardt (Cohuna Vic) 83pts / 30 and Karen Napper and Debbie Walsh from Grafton District Services 82pts / 21) took home the money for fifth place.
Close to the money and not quite in the winner’s circle was Yamba’s Chris Cole and Helen Atkinson who took home the ‘Just Missed Out’ prize with 80pts / 14.
Prizes were allocated to the team with the highest margin for each Round. First Round winners were Meryl King and Candy Nixon (South Grafton). Second Round went to Yamba’s Lois Duncan and Carol Ritale. Third Round prize went to Dawn Lawson and Bev Murray (Grafton District Services).
Congratulations to all the winners.
There were other winners on the day too with an extensive table of raffle prizes – most of which were donated by our members for which we are most grateful. Also, some lucky ladies managed to secure a win in the 100 Clubs.
At the end of the day, players came in to have a well-earned drink and nibbles set out by our marvellous Social Team under the guidance of Cheryl Maz – who also started the day very early to provide morning tea to all. Thanks to Cheryl and all her helpers.
President Bev expressed her appreciation to all our sponsors – namely Yamba Bowling and Recreation Club – always a great support each year and also to McDonalds Yamba who have been a loyal sponsor for many years.
President Bev also expressed her appreciation to Secretary Joan Scadden and Treasurer Julie Coulter for all their hard work leading up to the Tournament. And also, to Vice-Presidents Lois Duncan and Jude Pryor for their assistance on the day.
Hearty thanks went to the Controlling Body and scorer extraordinaire – Bob Ballantyne who has guided us through not only today but also most of our past Tournaments with great efficiency.
Also, to Dave Atkinson who assisted Bob and the wonderful Maz who looked after the needs of the players throughout the game and was a wonderful help in the setting up.
Thanks to the umpires for their time and to Graham and company yet again for our wonderful greens.
And lastly but definitely not least – heartfelt thanks to all those who entered, and we hope you enjoyed your time with us and hope to see you all again next year.
