Yamba SLSC 4th at Country Titles

A 60 strong team of Yamba Surf Club competitors plus supporters made the long trip to the South Coast over the Australia Day long weekend to take part in the 2025 NSW Country Surf Lifesaving Championships at Warilla Beach.

Led by strong performances from the nippers and masters competitors in rough surf conditions on the first day, Yamba finished the 3 day carnival in 4th place of the 35 competing clubs, behind winners host club Warilla-Barrack Point, Cudgen Headland and Broulee.

Yamba competitors won 25 gold medals, 27 silver medals and 13 bronze medals. Stand out performers for Yamba were:

  • Peter Rheinberger with 7 gold medals in the Over 60 years division – 5 individual gold and 2 teams gold;
  • Alan Dunne also with 7 gold medals – 2 individual in the 40-49 years division and 5 teams gold in the over 110 years division with Joe Dougherty and Leah Curtis.
  • The Under 8 years team of Halle Dunne, Barry Clark, Tanner Wall and Jimmy Walmsley who won the Wade Relay and teamed with Lenny Dougherty (Under 9) and Cody Kratzmann (Under 10) to win the Buchanan Relay;
  • The Under 11 years mixed board relay team of Archie Dunne, Lulu Kemp and Harlen Bews and the 11/12 years mixed Cameron relay team of Leo Dean, Gracie McLennan, Byron Richards and Harlen Bews which both won gold. Byron also won the 11 years 1km beach run.
  • In the 12 years division Clarry Dougherty won the iron man and board races with Leo Dean 2nd in the board race and 3rd in the iron man.
  • Jill Ennever and Bobbie Winger also won a swag of gold, silver and bronze medals in the Over 60 years female events.

 

Yamba club members have now set their sights on the Yamba Masters Carnival on February 15 and the NSW State Titles early in March.
