Yamba men’s Triples kicks off

The 2020 Minor Triples Championship has commenced in spectacular fashion with a number of surprising quarter-final results making the outcome of the competition anyone’s guess.

The team of Jeff Lowndes, Brian Kay and Mick Spence took an unforeseen, but truly deserved, victory over the fancied trio of Steve Cassidy, Alan Reed and John Luchetti by 27 – 17 and will now face defending champions ‘Maz’ Mazoudier, Erik Pedder and Paul Lozelle in the semi-finals following their incredibly hard-fought 24 – 21 win over Barry Latham, Mark Bilton and ‘Sturat’ Bell. Jake McHutchison, Brian Pennell and Dave Coupland had a relatively comfortable 28 – 13 victory over Bill Best, Peter Julian and Bill Williams as did Keith Smith, Bob and Chris Gunning when they overcame Bob Baldwin, Roger McLean and Steve Grodzki by 32 – 15. The semi-finals will be played on Thursday February 20 commencing at 5.30pm.

The first round of the 2020 Box Draw Championship took place on Friday with 54 bowlers exposed to the box-draw triples format, some taking an impressive ride into next month’s pairs and others hoping for a complete form reversal. Watch the notice board for details.

The annual trip to Park Beach to recapture the ‘Boomerang Trophy’ from the prodigious Park Beach Pirates is scheduled for Sunday March 1. The participation sheet is on the notice board and more participants are desperately required. All are welcome, including family, visitors, etc.

Men’s social bowls will continue on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. All games commence at 1pm and names need to be on the nomination sheets by 11.30am on the respective day of play. Any decision on whether play will proceed or be cancelled due to inclement weather will not be made prior to 11.30am on the day of play. All nominations are guaranteed a game and visitors are most welcomed.
