Yamba Men’s Bowls

Rounds two and three of the 2015 Major/Minor Pairs Championships are programmed for Sunday 16th August, morning and afternoon respectively. Several key match-ups to determine which team will likely collect this keenly contested championship event will be staged with the fancied pairing of Greg Dickman and Bob Ballantyne up against Steve Grodzki and Allan Parker, while the game between the combinations of Bob McKibbin and Peter Forrester against Ron Moore and Steve Kliendienst should be a thriller. Other interesting match-ups will be the game between Jim Groom and David Coupland against Greg Forbes and Lance McCarthy. Greg has been in career best form lately and could lead his team into the next round if he continues to bowls at such a high standard. Alan Marr and Ray Schafer take on the ‘Gunning Boys’ Chris and Bob, while Ian Lambert and Richard Skippings will have to wait until Friday to find out who their opposition will be with Paul Conley and Alan Abbott doing battle against Jeff Cook and Alan Turnbull in a postponed first round game. ‘Favourite slayers’, Neville Beck and Barry ‘Bomber’ De-Bomford will look to continue their march through the field when they take on the unpredictable combination of Don Freeman and Bruce Angel. The game between Harry Ward and Lew Saliba against ‘championship contenders’ John Luchetti and Wayne Curtis has been brought forward to Wednesday. The dynamic duo of Erik Pedder and Mark Scobie are already through to the quarter-finals having accounted for Andy Duke-Yonge and Graham Meany 26 shots to 20 in a round two game played on Friday. Erik and Mark have won this title previously and look in ominous form to achieve a second win. The nomination sheet for the 2015 Minor Pairs Championship is on the notice board with nominations closing on Wednesday 2nd September with the first round to be played on Saturday 5th September followed by rounds two and three on Sunday 6th September. Also the nomination sheet for the 2015 Major Triples Championship is on the notice board with nominations closing on Wednesday 30th September. Following these two championship events it will be the Mixed Fours which hopefully will attract a large field of participants. Last Saturday the Yamba Club hosted a visit by the Queensland War Veteran’s Bowling Club. A healthy total of 84 bowlers took to the greens in what was a great day of mixed social bowls. The next visit will be by the Tweed Heads Bowling Club on Saturday 12th September. Don’t forget the Yamba Lions Club Charity Bowls Day on Sunday 30th August. A nomination sheet is be on the notice board. It should be a great day for a very worthy cause.
