Yamba men’s bowls Major/Minor Pairs Championship this weekend

Three club championships are scheduled to be contested this week, including Club Veteran Singles, the C Grade Singles and the Major/Minor Pairs. The Club Veteran Singles final is scheduled for Tuesday September 8 commencing at 5.30pm and should be a magnificent game between two of the club’s bowling stalwarts and good friends in Greg Johnson and defending champion Bruce Angle. The final of the C Grade Singles Championship will be contested in conjunction with the Club Veterans with Bill Williams up against Jack Atherton. Jack maintained his perfect championship record when he managed to hold his nerve and defeat Don Lee by 31 – 27 in last week’s semi-final.

The Major/Minor Pairs Championship is programmed for this weekend with two rounds on Saturday and two on Sunday. The draw will be completed following social bowls on Wednesday and at the time of submission of this article, sixteen teams had nominated for this keenly contested event. Many of our top club bowlers have entered, coupled with a collection of our up and coming champions of the future. The weekend should be filled with a bounty of bowling brilliance by most, broken championship dreams for some and the fulfillment of sporting career aspirations for a few.  Games commence at 9am both days.

Nominations for the Minor Singles, Handicap Fours and Stan Brown Shield are currently open. Members are advised to note the change of date for the Stan Brown Shield. Please check the notice board for details.

Men’s social bowls will continue Wednesday (pairs) and Friday (triples) afternoons. All games commence at 1pm and nominations can be made by telephoning the bowls office on 6646 8669 prior to 11.30am on the intended day of play.
