Tuesday November 5
It is great when you can have fun and raise money for a worthy cause simultaneously – and that is how the day went today.
It was lovely to see 30 bowlers out on the green – and great to welcome our very new bowler Leanne Christie. Also, a warm welcome to Marj Thompson after a long break.
Our selectors came up with some novel ideas to make this a fun day of bowls. Firstly, everyone lined up for the “Spider”. Thanks to all for finding such lovely gifts – I am sure every recipient was more than happy.
Then there were prizes for the first two touchers – won by Judy Abbott and Judy Pryor. More fun when all positions were changed after each four ends – skips becoming leads, leads to skips and so on, giving everyone a turn at “skip’s pressure”.
And just to make things even more challenging – skips had a choice to make one end in the game a ‘power play’ end – hoping to win with double the score – a bit of a gamble on the outcome of the end which made for determined bowling by all.
Results of all this fun were: S. Moore, G. Davis, J. Abbott d M. McBey, M. Sakac, C. Cole; J. Boyd, J. Coulter. J. Pryor d M. Stone, B. Cross, L. Asbury; M. Thompson, M. Abbott, K. Mason had a very close win over G. Freeman, S. Lindsay, W. Ballantyne. Another close call for L. Christie, J. Pearson, C. Ritale d B. Shatte, R. Moore, J. Button. Yet another close game with P. Conley, C. Mazoudier sharing a game with Raels McKibbin, J. Scadden d V. Beddow, R. Fletcher, H. Atkinson.
With bowls over, everyone retreated to the auditorium to enjoy lunch together in the company of our Life Members Lyn Olsson and Shirley Drum and Patron Beryl Nielsen.
Lunch over it was time for drawing out of a hat the lucky winners for today’s bowls. Eight lucky ladies went home a little richer in Bowlo Bucks. Then came the 100 Club and raffles – and amid much yahooing cheering and general jubilation prizes were issued to those lucky enough to have the right number on their tickets. The numerous raffle prizes were donated by members and our Life Members and Patrons and were much appreciated.
Also, prizes were awarded for the best dressed lady (Marie Stone) and the most outrageous outfits – which were won by Joan Scadden and Sharon Moore (resplendent in lifeguard gear). Best hat went to President Bev. The beautiful arrangement of red and yellow flowers beautifully made in the theme colours of the day by our sponsor Debbie May Flowers – was won by Marion McBey.
Thank you must also go to the YBRC for donating a number of our prizes.
A thank you to Lucy Coulter who made the lovely table centres in red and yellow to add to the theme of the day.
We proudly reveal we have added $500 to the coffers of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter – heartfelt thanks to all who attended and through their generosity made the day such a success.
Next game – Shirley Drum triples.
