Yamba ladies Triples final was nail biter

A whole weekend of triples for Yamba lady bowlers – with the first and second rounds completed on Saturday April 9 followed closely by the finals on Sunday 10.

On Saturday morning there were two rinks of play to kick off the competition – and it was team C. Ritale and her team – J. Madden and H. Atkinson moving on to the 2nd Round after defeating J.  Beaumont’s team of K. Gunning and J. Button. One other rink to complete Round 1 with team W. Ballantyne – C. Mazoudier and J. Coulter defeating team C.  Aitchison – M. Sakac and J. Abbott.

The afternoon games kicked off with C. Ritale and team again successful and moving into the semi-finals when they defeated L. Duncan and her team M. Abbott, J. Pearson after a very keenly contested game. Also making their way to the semis were V. Beddow, M. Parker, M. Jenner d L. McLean, J. Pryor, K. Mason and P. Chilcott, R. McPherson C. Cole d B. Backshall, S. Lindsay, G. Davis.

Sunday morning was a fine day for bowls. The ladies lined up with hopes of making the final and also take home the Triples 2022 Championship. And what a fight for position it was, with both teams having nail-bitingly close games. It was neck and neck for team Carole Ritale v Marianne Jenner’s team with the lead swinging from team to team throughout the game. And when it came to the last end it was Carol’s team who prevailed by one measured shot. An absolute ripper of a game and worthy of a semi-final.

No less exciting in the semis was the battle between Chris Cole’s team and that of Wendy Ballantyne. Again, Wendy held a reasonable lead until the 15th end when Chris and company managed to level the scores. Then it was Chris who held the lead till the last end despite a rally from team Ballantyne getting within one shot on the last end. Fine bowling from everyone and a treat for the spectators.

Then it was on to the final, but it was Carol and team who left no doubt as to who was to hold this year’s Triples Championship with a resounding win. Overall, it was a wonderful performance and the quality of all our bowlers truly shone through.

So, congratulations to Carol, Helen and Jane (first Championship for a very new and promising bowler) and also congratulations to all in the finals and the lead-up to the finals for very entertaining bowls.

Thanks go to the umpires and officials for the weekend bowls – the men’s Triples were played simultaneously, and it was a wonderful weekend for spectators to enjoy such quality bowling from both the men and women of our Club.
