We certainly didn’t expect to play in our much-awaited Irish Stableford last Wednesday because of the ominous weather forecast and a wet course, but play went ahead without a hitch.
With 34 players, including Ernestine Woo and Virginia Tull from Gailes and Ballina golf courses, the course was a blaze of green and orange to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.
Virginia and Ernestine teamed up with Darrie Nightingale and Gail Gore-Brown to win the round with a score of 84pts. Well done ladies.
NTP’s: Yamba Medical Centre 3rd – Carrie Aitken; Yamba Florist, Debbie May 3rd (2nd) – Terri Collingburn; Leonie May Millinery 9th (2nd) – Darrie Nightingale; Yamba Fair Butchery 10th – Carrie Aitken; The Shoe Boutique 12th – Lyn Rowland; Clovelly Fashions, Maclean 17th – Sandra Wallace and The Wobbly Chook 17th (2nd) – Fay Gimenez. Balls were awarded to 80 c/b.
Unfortunately, no play took place on Friday or Saturday. Monday’s GIMY Shield which was to be held at Iluka was postponed and will now take place on Monday, April 19. Let us hope the weather is kinder for this rescheduled date.
Our qualifying players in the Championship knockout had to take advantage of every window to play their matches. Congratulations to our 1st Round winners: Carrie Aitken; Leigh Robertson; Jennifer Fagan; Kathy Parker; Gail Gore-Brown; Julie Campbell and Fay Gimenez. The 1st Round match for Jo Simmons v Glen Czarnota had not been played at the time of this article’s submission.
A revised VW Scramble date is yet to be decided.
With more rain on the horizon, we can only hope that the forecasters have it wrong this time and that we will all be able to hit the course before too long.
Happy golfing ladies!
It was a very gloomy Irish Stableford Day for Yamba lady golfers but the green (and occasional orange) helped brighten things up.
