Yamba ladies have a new golfing champion

With fine weather prevailing over the past month, the Yamba course returned to its former glory just in time for the Yamba Ladies 2022 Championships.

For the first time in many years, a new player has become Club Champion. Fiona Smart was thrilled considering she had been the bridesmaid for many years at her former club, Narrabri. Playing strong golf in every one of the four rounds (351), Fiona managed to edge out Darrie Nightingale who had been victorious at Yamba for the past four years. Darrie took out A Grade Gross r/up with her score of (352). Fiona has played excellent golf throughout the year and was definitely a worthy recipient as this year’s winner. Janine Zietsch played some outstanding golf to win A Grade Nett (292) and another great performance by Janette Blair earned her Nett r/up (294).

Di Sigle was named B Grade Champion and duly rewarded after playing some excellent golf this year (412). Di managed to beat Julie Campbell, B Grade Gross r/up, (413) in the last of the four rounds. This year’s B Grade Nett winner was Gwynne Thomas (314 c/b) who came in ahead of the r/up, Denise Ginn, by the narrowest of margins (314). Both ladies played excellent golf.

In C Grade, Sue Wilson established her dominance early in the competition and continued to play steady golf to take out the Gross winner title (435). Jane Anderson (466) also played great golf to take out C Grade Gross r/up. It was pleasing to have two relative newcomers to 18-hole competitions, Jacky Penfold (321) and Nadene Carroll (324), named C Grade Nett winner and Nett r/up respectively.

In the nine-hole event, it was Carol Miller who was deemed the Champion for this year after playing some great rounds throughout the duration of the competition.

Congratulations are extended to the 2022 winners and runners up in their respective events. As always, the competition was intense but those who held their nerve to play steady and consistent golf were rewarded in the end.
