Yamba ladies golf – “as usual, Byron Bay did not disappoint”

With many ladies having departed for the Byron Bay tournament on Wednesday morning, our field was reduced to 46.

Ann Groom won Div 1 with 37pts followed by Val Pate (35pts). In Div 2, Jenifer Moody won after an excellent round scoring 40pts. Lynne Donsworth also had a handy score of 38pts to come in r/up. Irene Williams played solid golf to win Div 3 (38pts) and Jane Anderson was r/up with 36pts.

The ball rundown went to 34pts c/b.

NTPs were awarded to: (Yamba Medical Centre 3rd) Carolyn Chester; (Yamba Florist, Debbie May 2nd on 3rd) Lyn Ford; (Leonie May Millinery 2nd on 9th) Margaret Solomon; (Yamba Fair Butchery 10th) Jo Simmons; (The Shoe Boutique 12th) Helen Collins; (Clovelly Fashions 17th) Helen Collins and (The Block 2nd on 17th) Jane Anderson. In Wednesday’s nine-hole competition, Shellee Clare won with 20 pts in a field of 16. Shellee obviously had a great day, also winning the NTP.

We had 17 ladies who travelled to Byron for their annual two-day tournament this year.

In Thursday’s single event, Jeannie Doolan was our best performer in Div 1, scoring 75pts c/b to come in 4th r/up. Lyn Rowland was also a 4th r/up in Div 3 with a Stableford score of 33pts.

Kim Lipscombe and Julie Campbell were NTP winners and Sandra Russo, Gillian Holst, Julie Campbell, Jane Bonner, Kathy Parker and were ball winners in the rundown.

Day two was a 4BBB. For a while it seemed that our ladies’ major claim to fame was to be winning the majority of the day two raffle prizes; however, Glen Czarnota starred by winning the Div 2 accuracy drive. This was no mean feat in the blustery, windy conditions which were seemingly gale force at times. Well done Glen! Four points behind the winning duo, Jeannie Doolan and Leigh Robertson were our best performers with their score of 40 and came home with a ball in the rundown. Our lucky raffle winners over the two days were Penny Cope, Jane Bonner and Jeannie Doolan and Gail Scobie.

As usual, Byron Bay did not disappoint. The course was in magical condition with pristine fairways and lightning fast greens and our ladies had two great days catching up with familiar faces and making new acquaintances. Many thanks go to our ladies who organised accommodation and travel as well as to Margery for her faultless organisation with carts and entries.

There will be no competition this Wednesday due to the AGM @ 9.30am but Friday will see an American Foursomes round.
