The festive season came early to our club on July 4, when 32 members, including, Zone Councillor, Anne Dinham, celebrated Christmas in July. Guest speaker for the evening, VIEW National Councillor, Cecilia Bayliss, was welcomed by President Karen. Our ladies looked resplendent, in their Christmas ‘bling’ and one was judged the best dressed for the evening. Congratulations Carol, you can always be relied upon to come up with something spectacular. Decorations and the meal followed the theme and it was a very enjoyable night. Cecilia spoke to the members and reminded us we should be proud to be part of VIEW, as we are The Smith Family’s single largest sponsor of disadvantaged students. Effecting positive change in communities, by helping these children succeed at school. There are over 1150 ‘Learning for Life’ students, Australia wide. Thank you for your address Cecilia and reinforcing the message, we are making a difference, under the umbrella of The Smith Family. The social outing for July was to Cardiff Alpaca at Harwood. From all accounts, it was an informative/relaxing and happy day. Homemade scones with jam and cream, lamingtons and coffee greeted the ladies, followed by a tour of the property. A cottage industry has been developed around the Alpaca and many of these products were available on the day. Our next dinner meeting will be on August 1, should you need to advise, please email yambaview@gmail.com or phone Marlene on 6645 8721 by Friday the 29. Guest speaker for the evening will be Lester Cooke, Vice President of New Italy Museum and a direct descendant of the Italians who settled the area. The story is one of betrayal/unimagined suffering/abandonment until rescue and finding a home in Northern NSW. You guessed it ladies; the theme of the night is Italy, so check out your wardrobes for red/white and green. Marg Maher
