2022 Consistency winner Helen Atkinson and runner-up Lois Duncan. Im-age: Yamba Women’s Bowls

Yamba Consistency finals

Tuesday August 2

A sparse field for the new month with two rinks of pairs and one of triples. One winning team was that was G. Davis and M. Muttley who defeated the Gunning duo. C. Maz and M. Abbott had a drawn game with H. Kellet and J. Beaumont with Julie and Helen having the edge on ends won.

In the triples game it was L. McLean, M. Stone and V. Beddow who made short work of B. Newling (v), S. Lindsay and J.  Pryor.

Thursday August 4

Wonderful bowls weather at present which makes the going a little easier for the semi-finalists in the Consistency.

As expected, with every participant being amongst our Club’s finest bowlers – the games were very hard-fought with very little margin in the score lines all the way through. The end result deciding who was to go on to the final on Sunday August 7 – and it was Helen Atkinson who won her titanic battle with Cathryn Aitchison and again in a hard-fought game Lois Duncan earned her place by defeating Monica Parker.

Alongside these battles there were 18 social bowlers with the winners for the day – P. Chilcott, L. McLean, G. Davis d J. Madden, K. Gunning, J. Pryor.

Other games – all triples – M. Partridge (v), B. Shatte, V. Terry had a narrow loss to P. McKenna, J. Stamp, M. Abbott and S. Lindsay, M. Jenner, C. Cole d M. Stone, C. Maz and J Abbott.

Sunday August 7

It’s down to the nitty-gritty of the 2022 Consistency with finalists Lois Duncan and Helen Atkinson on the starting line in rather gusty conditions. This combined with the very slick greens made life a little hard to achieve consistency. However, as the truly good bowlers they both are there were still many good shots played.

But it was Helen Atkinson taking home her first Consistency title at the end of the day despite Lois’s best efforts to thwart her. Marker was Jude Pryor.

Congratulations to the finalists and many thanks to those umpires, controlling bodies and markers who contributed their time throughout what was a very popular competition with a healthy number of entries from many bowlers – both experienced and our promising new bowlers.

Happy to announce the Bowler of the Month of July – Lois Duncan. Lois is currently a valued Vice-President of the Club and is a very talented bowler having won many titles at District and Club level. Lois represented our Club at the State Playoffs in Tamworth in partnership with Carol Ritale in the State Senior Pairs reaching the semi-finals. A truly valued member and very deserving of the award.

Thanks must go to the Yamba Bait Place for sponsoring this award.

Good luck to our No 3 and 4 Pennant sides, commencing the battle for supremacy on Thursday August 11 followed by the No 5 Pennants on August 16.

Coming up – Blue Pacific Pairs on August 15. Hope this wonderful weather holds for us on that day.
