Sunday August 1

It’s down to the wire for the Club Championship Fours today with reigning champions Helen Atkinson and her team of Lois Duncan, Julie Beaumont, Carol Ritale out to repeat their 2020 finals performance this year, – up against Cathryn Aitchison’s team of Sue Lindsay, Judy Abbott and Joan Scadden intent on snatching the title. And what a game of mixed fortunes it was with each player putting on a fine performance in their relative positions. There were many close heads and Jack was taken on a trip with sometimes success, sometimes not so.  But all in all, it was a very entertaining game and with the score at 17 – 7 on the 17th end it seemed Helen and Co had it in the bag. But Cathryn and her team had different ideas and rallied to pick up 8 shots in the final 4 ends taking the end score to a nail-biting 17 – 15 in Helen’s favour. Congratulations to all the finalists and well done, Helen and team for taking the title for the second year in a row,

Many thanks to umpires and officials who presided throughout the competition.

Our umpires are very happy to welcome Marianne Jenner to their group. The more umpires we have on board the better. Thanks Marianne.

Social players, be aware that there is now a nomination sheet for social bowls on the men’s board desktop – so you can put your name and preferred position on the sheet – use your own pen if possible – there are pencils there, but they must be disposed of once used. Also, if you wish to withdraw your nomination, please write your name on the bottom of the sheet where it indicates withdrawn players. Of course, nominations by phone will still be accepted.

Unfortunately, due to the COVID crisis affecting the State the Pennant playoffs which our winning Fours side were to contest at Cabarita have been postponed.
