Yamba Championship season kicks off

The 2022 Yamba Bowling Clubs Championship season commences this coming Sunday February 13, with the holding of the men’s Major Fours.

The first round is being played at 9am followed by the second round that same day commencing at 1pm.

The draw for this event has been posted on the notice board resulting in some very interesting first round match ups, with probably the feature clash being the battle between the well credentialled team of Cliff Vagg, Steve Jackson, Marty Wood & Ian Parker coming up against a formable combination in Brett Pingle, Ron Smidt, John Deale & Jimmy Johnson.

Both these sides on paper would be considered strong chances of taking out the title overall so it’s expected to be a titanic tussle before a winner is determined from this clash.

Good luck & enjoyable bowling to all teams nominated in the Major Fours.

Saturday February 12 will see the playing of this year’s Presidents Cup where two sides, selected by Ian Lauder the president of Yamba Bowling Club & Peter Forrester who is the bowls coordinator at the club, made up of mixed fours, ladies & men’s triples, ladies & men’s pairs as well as lady & men’s singles playing against each other for the right to claim the Presidents Cup Trophy.

Both Ian & Peter felt it appropriate to introduce a number of our newer bowlers into their respective teams for Saturday’s event, so the teams from last year have been changed significantly which should lead to an intriguing battle.

The cup is presently held by the bowls coordinators team from last year so we are sure that the president’s side will be keen to wrestle it away & claim victory this year.

The action starts at 9am on Saturday with the mixed fours and triples being played followed by the pairs and singles after lunch around 1pm.

Yamba Men’s Grade 3 Pennant side had the honour to be nominated for senior team of the year in the Clarence Valley Sports Awards for 2021 that were held at Yamba Bowling Club last Saturday and although not successful in taking out the award it was still an honour to be considered worthy enough to be nominated.
