Yamba Championship golfers fire with 2 aces in one round
Thursday saw 122 players fighting for the midweek Stableford with some just trying to increase their handicap before this weekend’s Championships.
A Grade winner with 40pts was Jamie Pengilly, 2nd was the hard working David Miles with 37pts and 3rd went to Alex Podbereski with a miserly 34pts.
A Reserve was won by Garry Payne with 41pts, 2nd went to Sunny Bill Williams with 38pts and 3rd was Nick Anderson with 37pts.
B Grade winner and score of the day went to Warren Hughes with a massive 46pts, 2nd was the rarely inform Barry Norden with 42pts and 3rd was Lester English with 40pts.
Vic White won C grade with 38pts, 2nd went to Ray Scovell 37pts and 3rd went to Peter Sweetman 36pts.
Nearest to the Pins were: on the 3rd SeaFire Steak and Seafood hole Doug Luckie at 99cm, the 9th Peter Campbell Physio hole went to Ron McKeon at 100cm, the 10th SeaFire hole was Dick Ord at 203cm, the 12th Yamba Barber Shop hole went to Harold Roberts 158cm and the SeaFire 17th was Kev Moran at 411cm.
Balls went to 34 with 17 on the back.
First Round of Club Championships
There were 144 players started for the first round of the Club Championships and the September Medal with the A Grade winner blasting out of the blocks at 63 nett, Terry Lawes hit 75 off a 12 handicap giving him the A Grade medal and the early lead, 2nd Place in A Grade went to Ron Jeffries with a 68 nett and 3rd was Clayton Hope with 69 nett. The Gross winner was Ron Jeffries with 75 on a count back.
A Reserve medal winner was Brian Scanlon with a 67 nett from Alan Warry 68 nett and 3rd was Andrew Harris with 69 nett; the Gross went to Brian Scanlon with 84 hits.
B Grade medal winner was Des Hall with 67 nett, 2nd was Peter Julian 68 and third went to Peter Sharp with 70 on a count back. Peter Julian won the gross with 88 on a count back.
The medal in C Grade went to Ardy Denehy with a great round of 65 Nett, 2nd went to president Head Moran with a 67 nett on a count back from Barry Hall 67 nett. Head won the Gross with 94 hits.
NTPs: Gus Young on the John Wright Pro shop 3rd at 112cm, the Peter Campbell Physio 9th was Carl Wood at 263cm, the 10th SeaFire Steak and Seafood hole was Greg LaForest 152cm, the SeaFire 12th was Greg Cowen at 212cm, the 17th Bene Scene hole went to Greg Wyllie at 581cm and the 2nd shot 17th went to Terry Bull at 508cm.
Balls went to 71 with nett 38 on the back 9.
Flett and Allomes Hole Out in Championships
A beautiful sunny day saw only 69 players contesting the 2nd round of the Club championships, the story of the day was the 2 hole in one’s, that’s right Geoff Flett holed out on the 3rd and Ross Allomes knocked it in on the 12th hole giving them plenty of prizes.
Andrew Kelly took the A Grade Lead with a great 66 Nett giving him the A grade Daily prize as well, 2nd for the day went to Barry Fisher with 68 on a count back and 3rd was Bruce Lulham 68 nett,
A Reserve was won by Cranky Frankie Foxover with a excellent 64 nett from Kevin Lowe 68 nett on a count back and 3rd went to Russell Cain 68 nett.
The B grade favourite Peter Hall had a great 65 nett giving him the win, 2nd went to Rex Bolte with 67 nett and 3rd was Mike Thurbon with 69 nett,
C Grade winner was Greg Cowan with 75 nett from Barry Hall 76 nett on a count back from Col Ayton 76 Nett.
NTPs: Geoff Flett holing out on the John Wright pro shop 3rd, the 9th Peter Campbell Physio was young Mackenzie Wright at 179cm, the SeaFire 10th was Bruce Lulham at 134cm, the 12th SeaFire hole went to Ross Allomes who had the other Hole in one, the 17th Bean Scene hole was Awesome Isakson at 550cm.
Balls from the day went to 72 with 36.5 nett on the back 9. The championship results are posted in the members lounge at the Golf Club.
