Yamba bowlers in Zone One Singles finals

The Zone One Singles finals were held at South Lismore on the weekend with two Yamba bowlers through to the final eight as the Zone One South representatives in their respective divisions.

Ian Parker, contesting the senior division, made it through to the semi-finals but was unfortunately defeated by the eventual winner, Lance Watson of Kingscliff, by 31-20.

Steve Butler, contesting the open division, defeated Graham Houston of Lennox Head in the quarter-final, 31-27, before experiencing continued success against Richard Latta of East Lismore in the semi-final by 31-22.

The final against Peter Taylor of Alstonville, the reigning Bowls Australia Bowler of the Year, was always going to be a difficult task but Steve gave it his best. Unfortunately for Steve, the conditions suited Peter’s power game and with his full array of shots on display, Peter took the title and the place at the State finals by 31-10.

In great news in the reserve division, Mick Charters of Brooms Head took out the division and will also make his way to the state finals later in the year
