Yamba “back to its best” for ladies’ golf

The horrific weather that we endured for so many weeks is now a distant memory with clear blue skies and windless days being the norm over the past few rounds.

Conditions were perfect for last Friday’s Single Stableford event and, as a result, there were 50 keen ladies who took to the course. The overall results were an indication that the course is becoming more receptive to good scoring.

Results

Div 1: Helen Collins (37pts) and Lee Daley (37pts c/b) were difficult to separate. Both ladies had a consistent 19 and 18 points on their front and back nine holes.

Div 2: Carrie Aitken (35pts) who has had three pleasing rounds over the past week and Jen O’Neill (31pts c/b) was the next best as r/up.

Div 3: Angela Walpole (35pts) won ahead of Joan Berry (34pts c/b).
Our NTP winners: Flots and Jets 3rd – Robyn Brockwell; Valley Finance 3rd (2nd) – Sandra Russo; Peter Campbell Physio 9th (2nd) – Jennifer Fagan; Kitchen to Table 10th – Julie Vernol; Amie Rose Beauty 12th – Lee Daley; Nicholson’s Fine Foods 17th – Sue Scott and Yamba Pharmacy 17th (2nd) – Angela Walpole.

Balls were awarded to 31pts c/b.

It was a chilly start for the nine ladies who played in last Saturday’s competition. Tiffany Lee was in fine form (34pts), winning ahead of Gwynne Thomas who scored 32pts. Julie Campbell won the NTP.

This Wednesday will be the 4th Monthly Medal, 3rd GNSW Medal, Veterans’ Country Championship, Ladies Elimination and GWLAD Murray Round. Friday will be a Single Stableford.

It’s almost time to break out our pink golf wear ladies. Next Wednesday will be our annual fundraiser, Texas Stableford Tee Off for Cancer Day. To enter, please add your name to the sheet located in the golfers’ lounge.

Entries are still open for the upcoming WGNR Tournament which we are hosting from July 25-27 this year. Monday and Tuesday are Stroke/Stableford days, and the Wednesday is Foursomes.

Time is running out to enter the Women’s Golf Ballina Veterans’ Open Day (Tuesday July 12) and the Murwillumbah Mt Warning Classic (August 11/12). Entries for Ballina close next Tuesday and on Tuesday, July 12 for the Murwillumbah event.

Please keep abreast of upcoming matches by checking the noticeboards in the golfers’ lounge and ladies’ locker room and make the necessary entries through Margery.

Have a great week of golf!
