Yamba and Grafton host NSW Open qualifier

cvreview-imagesc   Grafton Golf Club, together with Yamba Golf Club hosted a regional qualifying event on the weekend with the eventual winner gaining a place in the 2016 NSW Open Golf Championship scheduled for November 10. The qualifier was open to the best amateurs from around the country and attracted a high class field. With a score of 137, the winner from Burleigh Heads, Lucas Higgins, backed up his 71 hits in Yamba with a great round of just 66 around the Grafton Championship Course. Next best was a Queensland State Player, Charles Dawn with 2 rounds of 70 at Yamba and 68 around Grafton (total 138). The best of the Grafton contingent were Greg Harvison and Matt McKee with both players completing the 36 holes on 150. The series which is promoted by Golf NSW, and hosted by Grafton and Yamba Golf Clubs will be part of the Clarence Valley Golf scene for the next two years which will no doubt highlight both courses in that time. The winner from Burleigh Heads Golf Club had great round of 66 at Grafton and 71 (one under par) at Yamba Golf Club, on the Saturday. Higgins won by one shot from Charles Dann, who shot 2 under par at Yamba and led Higgins by one shot coming to Grafton (on Sunday). These two young golfers played a great game between them, coming down to the wire at the last hole, where Higgins scored a birdie and Dann’s boggie, costing him victory.
