I remember growing and Ma (Win) was such a good cook and she made us beautiful clothes a very talented lady. For her 100th birthday party, I remember asking her if she wanted me to arrange someone to do her hair and makeup as I thought it would be a special treat for her, and she replied no thank you I have always done it so I will do it, and she did and looked as beautiful as ever. She still wears makeup and jewellery everyday so amazing to see her take so much pride in her presentation.

A few weeks ago she rang me up about 8.15pm and talked for about 30 minutes, I thought at the time how fantastic that was to have your 107 year old grandmother ring up for a chat, so blessed.

One thing about Win is her mind & memory is absolutely amazing, she can still tell lots of stories from the past and remember dates as well.

All the best Ma (Win) hope you enjoy your 108th birthday you are such an inspiration and I am feeling very fortunate to have you in my life.

I have very fond memories of spending time on our holidays with Ma & Pa Jefferies (Win & Eric) at their beach house in Wooli. Spending much time as kids taking long walks along the beach collecting shells, swimming & fishing in the river and just having pure fun.

I remember staying with them on their farm at Calliope, enjoying Ma’s wonderful home cooked meals, made from home grown produce. They were very self sufficient and worked hard, as did many families on the land.

I vividly remember how much Ma & Pa (Win &Eric) enjoyed dressing up for a day out at the horse races in Grafton, especially over the July Racing Carnival, catching with friends and having a flutter on the horses.

I would like to wish Ma (Win) a very happy 108th Birthday, and thank her for all the wonderful times we had as kids growing up and the contribution that they as grandparents made to our lives.

With much love and best wishes from,

Wendy Buttsworth (Grandaughter) & family

What can you say about how incredible it is to have a 108 year old Grandmother…

Well, she is an amazing lady indeed.

To think of all the years of change she has seen, the fashion ,cars , way of life, all the stories she has told me of her child hood,so very intersting…108 years of change, wow

I have such fond memories as a child with my mum, dad and brother Stephen, visiting the farm on which Grandma ( Winifred) raised her 3 children with my grandfather Eric. We would milk the cows, make real butter and ice cream. Feed the chooks, pigs and pick freshly grown vegetables and fruit, sitting under a huge macadamia nut tree and crack and eat nuts till full. Oh and Grandma made the best tomato jam and apple jelly I have ever tasted, a real treat.

I put all the hard work done on the farm along with home grown food down to her longevity, ask her and she will say “she just hasnt died yet, nothing you can do about it”.

When my 3 boys were at school and had to tell news , they all chose to tell about their Great grandmother, they told their class that she was amazing as she was born the year the Titanic went down, every one was impressed and she was in her 80s then, they wouldn’t believe it now at 108.

My dad, Val Jefferies would be so very proud of his mother, sadly we lost dad 12 years ago, he loved his mother dearly and would have got a real kick out of telling people of the  age of his mum and chatting with her of all the good old days shared together.

Grandma has always kept active, body and mind. Always stylish, has a love for clothes and jewellery. I had many trips to the shops where she would find something nice to buy and wear . You will find her dressed immaculately  with a gorgeous smile when popping in for a visit, still to this day.

So on behalf of your………..

Daughter in-law Doreen, 3 Great grandchildren, Luke and wife Donna, Bradley and Daniel, Grandaughter Sandra and husband Ron    “Happy 108th Birthday Grandma”we all love you so much and we are all so very proud of you reaching this incredible age, simply amazing. Dress up and enjoy your extraordinarily special day xxx

Some of my happiest childhood memories came from time spent on my grandparent’s farm. I remember squealing cousins and barking dogs while chasing rats at grandma and grandpa’s barn and chicken pen, quince jelly, and Christmas lunches in their dining room. One fond memory was when my father Val hired a metal detector and grandma, grandpa, dad, and my sister Sandra spent an afternoon wandering around seeing what we could find. After many holes being dug our haul was innumerable tin cans and other bits and pieces of rubbish, but it was fun.

After grandma and grandpa moved from their farm I used to visit them at their home in South Grafton with my father Val. We’d always end up in the garden looking at the fruit trees and vegetables. I like to think my love of gardening came down through dad from grandma. Also, as grandma is still at 108 a keen reader, I like to think that trait has been passed down through my father Val to me as well.

Lately, when I visit grandma with my wife Annette, when we return to Grafton, we chat about how my son Rowan is going in Melbourne, and show photo’s of our ragdoll cat Ragnar (grandma always loved cats), and talk about the lemons growing outside her room. These are priceless visits.

Happy 108th birthday Grandma!

From your grandson Stephen, wife Annette, great grandson Rowan and his partner Eboni, and our cat Ragnar.
