Grafton Aero Club will once again be hosting their annual Wings and Wheels Open Day this Sunday, 20 August at the South Grafton Aerodrome. This will be the 5th staging of the popular event and once again there will be a variety of clubs and individuals exhibiting their winged or wheeled pride of joy. There will be a range of hot rods, classic, vintage, sports, touring and race cars, plus go-carts, motor cycles and model aircraft etc on display. This is the first full year since the South Grafton Aerodrome Aircraft Hanger Owners Inc, became the aerodrome operator. Since then maintenance and upgrades to the grounds have been carried out, including widening and resealing of the runway. Last year saw around 40 aircraft fly in for the event, to add to the aircraft on display and organisers are anticipating a good turn out again this year (weather permitting). There will be three planes available for those wanting to purchase joyflights on the day: A Winjeel RAAF trainer plane – war bird adventure flights, a Jabiru 170 Trial Instructional Flight TIF – for anyone interested or contemplating learning to fly and Ewan McRae from Aussie Air will have a Cessna 172 available and anyone interested in booking a flight can contact him on 6681 3599. There will be an assortment of food and drinks available to purchase. The event is free to both exhibitors and the public, although there will be a gold coin donation for the charity this year which is the Oncology Ward at the Grafton Base Hospital. So why not bring the family along, for a great day out.
