Win celebrates 103 years
Lynne Mowbray
Win Jefferies of Dougherty Villa in Grafton, celebrated her 103rd birthday, on Monday.
Mrs Jefferies is still a very sprightly lady who walks daily, enjoys shopping outings and has a passion for card games and still plays Housie and Euchre.
She maintains a witty sense of humour and has an amazing memory as she recalls bygone days of growing up on a farm near Ulmarra.
“Back when I was growing up, you associated villages by the families who lived there,” she said.
“At Gillett’s Ridge (near Ulmarra) there was Campbell’s everywhere. There were so many of them, the place should have been called Campbelltown.”
Mrs Jefferies attributes her longevity to hard word and clean living.
“Living on a farm there was always work to be done,” she said.
“No smoking, no drinking and exercise – if you don’t use it, you lose it.”
The 103 year old enjoys the entertainers who visit Dougherty Villa presenting musical items.
But her greatest love is watching Roger Federer play tennis and she has a framed photo of him on her wall.
