“Where are our members this week?”

That was the question being asked on Tuesday of last week when an extremely poor roll up presented themselves for Grafton Swim Club competition.

It was very cool outside, but the water temperature was just prefect.

Despite low numbers it was decided to carry on regardless and this enabled the fearless ones to at least earn some well-deserved points towards the monthly total.

Only three starters were on the blocks for the final of the 25m freestyle dash and they were the well seasoned trio of David Moon, Steve Donnelly and Richard Sear.

These three swimmers are very used to the tactics needed to score a win, but in this event a controlled speed was needed so that times were not broken.

Moony, swimming a fast 12.12 seconds took the win from Steve and Searsy was third and it was a handicapper’s delight to have all three swimming within their nominated times.

Yvonne Shorrock, David Moon and Geoff Simkus made their way to the 50m final.

Yvonne was first in the water, and then Geoff and David followed after a fourteen second lapse.

As swimmers reached the final two metres of the event Geoff was swimming strongly and touched first and with a great time recorded, took the win with Yvonne taking second place and Moony third.

Geoff Simkus remained in the water after the 50m final as he had also qualified for the final of the 25m B B & B along with Steve Donnelly and Damien O’Mahony.

The whole three must have had reserves of energy because as they completed the distance it was announced that all three had busted their times with Marno being extremely unlucky, breaking by only .03.
