Wet weather impacts on local ladies’ golf calendar

With another onslaught of wild weather, our beautiful course was closed last week.

Trees were uprooted and the course was inundated with water; however, with a howling southerly helping matters, our fantastic greens staff were hard at work to ensure the course was brought back to a playable standard as quickly as they could manage. They do an amazing job!

Obviously, there is no news regarding recent play so this week’s news highlights some upcoming events that may be of interest.

There is an adjusted date for the GIMY (Grafton, Iluka, Maclean, Yamba) Shield. It will now be held at Maclean on Friday, April 22. Entries must be received by Monday, April 18th. Our ladies are encouraged to enter their names onto one of the entry sheets which can be found in both the Golfers’ lounge and the ladies locker lounge. Payment of $30 can be given to Jo Simmons or Kathy Lollback or paid directly into the Yamba ladies bank account. Please consider supporting this fabulous event which we will host in 2023.

The Kyogle Open Day (Stableford) will be held on April 26. Entry ($30) must be finalised by Thursday, April 14.

Many of our ladies enter the annual Ballina 2 Day Tournament (Stroke/Stableford) which will be held on May 5/6 this year. Entries ($65) can only be made online and will close on April 21 or when the draw is full. Please let Margery know if you enter.

We ask that entries for any of these events, excluding the Ballina Tournament, be done through Margery. Also, if you require a cart, please check whether this needs to be organised independently or through Margery.

Wet weather brought about the cancellation of last Friday’s 5-person Interclub event to be held at Casino. Organisers are unsure if it will be held this year.

It is also unfortunate that the 2nd Round of the Knockout was interrupted because of the course closure last week. Hopefully, the weather will remain calm and clear so that remaining rounds can go ahead without delay.

This week we say farewell to Julie Grant who is relocating to Queenstown, NZ, with her beloved David and Mollie. Julie has been an ardent supporter of Yamba Ladies and YGCC and we are all thrilled that finally, they will be able to start this next exciting chapter in their lives. You’ll be missed, Julie!
