Weather to or not?

Shocking play on words I know, but it seemed a lot like that on Tuesday of last week as the prospect of flooding brought play to a halt.

Fingers well and truly crossed, CRDWBA match chairperson Robyn McPherson tentatively rescheduled for Thursday March 25 and thankfully the weather gods smiled down on us.

Playing at Grafton District Services Club, the State Triples finalists; Red Rock / Corindi’s team of Debra Guy, Andrea Rudd and Zoe Ferrington along with the GDSCWBC’s own team of  Kayleen Power, Debbie Walsh & Margaret Toovey, joined CRDWBA President Denise and the Grafton WBC ladies for morning tea before heading out to, wonder of wonders a blue sky and a sun drenched Green.

Grafton won the toss and though it took the players an end or two to hit their stride, it was the Grafton girls who scored the first point of the game. From there on they never looked back as they settled down to the task in hand and by the eighth end had skipped away to an 18 to nil lead. Red Rock’s first points came on the following end as they tried valiantly to make up ground.

A pretty big ask with that sort of lead though and it wasn’t to be. With Red Rock requiring s a minimum of five shots on the penultimate end, the two shots that they scored were never going to be enough and they duly conceded the game. What excitement for Margaret Toovey and her team as they began to realise they’d qualified for the regional playoffs later in the year.

Disappointing of course for Zoe’s Red Rock girls; but as ever Red Rock were more than gracious in defeat, congratulating Grafton and wishing  them best of luck in the Regional playoffs. The ladies packed up and headed back into the clubrooms where they rounded their morning off with a celebratory lunch. They thanked Bill James (umpire) and Alma Bowling (controlling body) for their services and all agreed that we were extra lucky to get the match in, considering the earlier weather conditions,

The CRDWBA’s communication officer, Wendy Ballantyne was unable to attend as Yamba was flooded in and she will include full details on all rounds in the now completed State Triples Championships with the next edition.
