Tenterfield graziers Eddie & Zoe Lederhose are desperate…they need land in the Clarence Valley with grass.
Their property ‘Lederville’ on the Rocky River has not seen useful rain in months and as a result the once beautiful river has been reduced to a series of muddy puddles of slime, surrounded by sunburnt pastures.
Their herd of Brangus cattle and Australian Stock Horses which have taken many years to selectively breed are now at risk.
The couple have placed advertisements in newspapers along the north coast, appealing for agistment (see advertisement page 3).
“We are out of grass and very low on water we are about to lose it all unless we find temporary paddocks to get them through the winter,” said Eddie.
The couple say the price of cattle is at an extreme low due to no one having any pasture
“A steer at a recent sale cost $40 to transport from the farm to the sale and sold for $12.”
“We are not prepared to see our beautiful breeders go for nothing (to the abattoir) and are appealing for any assistance for short or long term agistment.”
“Although most NSW is in drought, the coastal country has received reasonable rains and there are many empty paddocks around. There are probably many people who have never thought of utilizing any empty land they may have.”
Eddie & Zoe say fences are not a problem as mobile steel yards are transportable, and can be moved from paddock to paddock, making small blocks usable.
“We are in need of help and will pay well for the use of your grass.” Say the couple.
