Actually, I can say a lot. It is very rewarding.
My name is Bev Mansfield, and I love to attend meetings and give back whatever and/or wherever I can.
When I had kids, of course you volunteer at the school canteen. If they have sport, you volunteer at the grounds or pick up rubbish where necessary.
I have loved volunteering in Yamba.
My husband, John and I arrived in Yamba to fill the positions of engineer and chandlery girl at the newly built Yamba Marina in 1994.
The Yamba Chamber of Commerce was regrouping after a period of inactivity and of course, I had to attend the meeting. This started my volunteering journey with the Chamber in 1995 and I am still with them today.
Amongst other things, the Chamber erects the Christmas Tree in Wooli Street Park and has done each year since 2016… It is now the Community Christmas Tree…. please help us to erect it this coming Christmas.
It is easy to claim you are “too busy” but if everyone was “too busy” no community volunteer work would ever get done.
I also volunteer at the Yamba Museum which houses a wonderful history of Yamba and surrounds. If you would like to volunteer, please contact me as I am the Roster Co-ordinator.
I help the Live Prawn Productions with the Yamba River Markets each month, I am the early bird (who gets the worm) and a coffee.
I am a great advocate for keeping the CVC accountable and informed on issues that Yamba may have. Taking pictures and sending in to “keep our toilets clean” please!! etc.
I do not feel I do more than most but love to keep busy and help in any way I can.
I joined the Lower Clarence Red Cross Team in 2008 –
volunteering in evacuation centres in Yamba and Maclean during flood times. It is very rewarding helping people sort where they can get help and just being there to talk and keep them safe.
Volunteering is for free but not for nothing
Like the army WE NEED YOU.
I have often thought, if all the volunteers went on strike, where would we be. Food for thought.
There is nothing special about me, I am just one of hundreds of volunteers through the Clarence Valley and like all the others I hope my contribution helps the organisations I belong to, continue to function and thrive.
We do not know how important something until it is gone.
If everyone does a little, a lot gets done.
If you need any assistance or information on volunteering in the Lower Valley, I may be able to assist, give me a call on 0499 588 137.
