Ed,
I think that your “Grandstand” contributor, Col Hennessey has it wrong about the Paralympics. But I tend to disagree with Col quite a bit so nothing new there.
What I see from Paralympians is ABILITY and not disability! Col downgraded Alexa Leary’s amazing swim in the mixed relay 34 points because she swam past a swimmer of lesser ability. Does this mean that a Triathlete who is an amazing swimmer should not be run down or passed on the bike by someone of greater ability in that leg of the race? Or that a male swimmer shouldn’t pass the female final leg swimmer in the Olympic mixed freestyle relay?
My mind was completely blown by the Chinese swimmer who (without arms) “swam” 50metres with just one breath and feet going like an outboard motor. I ask Col how many bullseye scores he has with a recurve bow yet a Yank with no arms scored PLENTY!
Come on Col look past the DISability and see the ABILITY.
