Vietnam Veterans’ Day is commemorated annually on August 18.

This year representatives from the Yamba and Maclean RSL Sub-Branches will conduct brief services commencing at 11am at their respective war memorials.

Flags will be lowered, wreaths laid and the Ode recited while observing strict social distancing requirements.

Maclean president, Steve Walton, said that just like ANZAC Day the COVID pandemic continues to restrict how we responsibly commemorate military anniversaries given the potential impact of the virus on our veterans.

He said, “for the time being we must adopt new ways to honour the sacrifice of all those who served during the Vietnam War but we must not forget”.
