Vessel sinks in Yamba

A recreational pleasure craft has sunk in Yamba’s boat harbour, on Sunday morning. The vessel which is privately owned is a former timber constructed fishing trawler. Roads and Maritime Services boating safety officer Luke Tucker said that at this point in time, it was not certain why the vessel sank. “It’s possible that either the skin fitting has failed or it could be that one of the timber planks (in the hull) has popped off, causing a sudden rush of water to enter the boat,” said Mr Tucker. “Plans are underway to salvage the vessel on Tuesday (of this week), depending on the availability of a crane which is currently working down at Harwood.” Image: Lynne Mowbray
