Valuable health services in a fun and interactive event

On October 21, Ochre Medical Centre Grafton, GP SuperClinic, will host a Community Health Open Day at the practice. The Ochre Health Community Open Day will enable the Clarence Valley community to connect with, and source health information from, important health services in the area. These include Our Healthy Clarence, Headspace, Grafton Physio, Optimum Health, Grafton Superclinic Pharmacy, Social Futures, Sullivan & Nicolaides, Cranes, Ochre Health’s Mental Health services and New School of Arts Neighbourhood House. There will also be information on women’s health, chronic disease, and speech therapy and podiatry services. The event will feature a free sausage sizzle, provided by the Clarence Aboriginal Men’s Group, free gift bags, prizes, face painting and helium balloons for kids, interactive health displays, and much more. Ochre Medical Centre Grafton has become a key health provider to the community since it opened in 2011 as Ochre Health’s first GP SuperClinic. The clinic has since grown to a team of seven permanent General Practitioners and 13 allied health providers including three mental health nurses, psychologists and a psychiatrist. The complex also has pathology and a pharmacy on site. With Ochre Medical Centre comprising one of the largest mental health teams in the Clarence Valley, the event is also a part of the local community’s Mental Health Month focus. Health and medical experts – from GPs, to mental health specialists and allied health professionals – will be on hand to answers question on a range of issues, including how to access mental health services and support issues, to accessing the new National Disability Insurance Scheme, as well as accessing other specialist health services in the area. The centre’s Practice Manager, Carol Pachos, says the day is all about working together with other health service providers and community groups with a focus on improving the health of the local community. “We are inviting Grafton and the broader community to come along and enjoy the food, fun, and free health information as we celebrate seven years in Grafton and an important month in the health calendar. This is the centre’s largest community event since we opened, and we are looking forward to meeting community members we know as well as those we haven’t yet met.” Sue Hughes, from Our Healthy Clarence, says: “This event is an opportunity for our community to connect with local health services. We are coming together to showcase the community programs that are offered locally, and to ensure they have their questions answered about access to mental health services and the NDIS.” Ochre Medical Centre Grafton is a spacious purpose-built modern facility, close to the centre of town. There is ample parking at the clinic which is situated right next to the banks of the beautiful Clarence River.
