Tricky waves and weather continue at the 2021 Billabong Oz Grom Cup.

DIGGERS BEACH, COFFS HARBOUR (Thursday, 8 April 2021):

The Billabong Oz Grom Cup pres. by Coopers Surf Australia continued today with some of Australia’s best and most talented junior surfers shining in difficult four-to-five foot surf.

Sierra Kerr (USA) followed in a similar trajectory to her dad – former WSL Championship Tour surfer Josh Kerr – as she smashed apart her opening 14-and-Under Girls heat. The former Gold Coast resident – who now calls the USA home – found a handful of playful walls in her heat and proceeded to execute a barrage of giant snaps and carves to post an excellent 8.33 wave score and a 5.73 to amass a 14.06 two-wave total. Kerr will make her next appearance in the third round.

Other 14-and-Under Girls round one champions included Juniper Harper (Lennox Head, NSW), Ruby Trew (Manly, NSW), Grace Gosby (Cronulla, NSW) and Jordy Halford (Currumbin, Qld)

Fletcher Kelleher (Manly, NSW) made light work of the lacklustre surf as he demolished a handful of punchy righthanders to notch up a gigantic 17.66 two-wave heat total. Kelleher, threw plumes of spray through his turns in his heats as he notched up the victory that left his closest rivals needing combinations of scores to take away his lead.

Sol Gruendling (Dee Why, NSW), Kash Brown (Cronulla, NSW) and Kash Smith (Barrack Point, NSW) all put on commanding performances across the same division, posting two-wave heat totals in excess of 13.00 to seal their spots into the third round.

All scores from day two of the Billabong Oz Grom Cup pres. by Coopers Surf Australia can be found here.

The prestigious five-day event – now in its eighth year – will kick off from the 7th – 11th April and looks set to cater for over 220 competitors in nine different divisions.

Former champions include 2016 World Junior Champion and current WSL World Championship Tour surfer Macy Callaghan who claimed her respective division in the event’s inaugural year. Since then, the event has been won by a range of Australia’s best and most promising junior surfers.

In addition to all the action in the ocean, the final two days of the event will also be webcast through Surfing NSW’s social channels.

All event presentations will be hosted at the Hoey Moey.

Boys and Girls divisions for the event include 8-and-Under Mixed, 10-and-Under, 12-and-Under, 14-and-Under and 16-and-Under.
