Treelands Drive community precinct on the move

Geoff Helisma | Clarence valley Council (CVC) will soon exhibit an amended plan of management (PoM) for its Treelands Drive reserve in Yamba. Exhibiting the amended PoM was triggered by CVC’s December decision to provide TAFE NSW with an “in principle agreement” to develop a ‘Connected Learning Centre’ on approximately 2,300sqm of the overall site. The draft PoM describes the proposed learning centre as a “custom designed [building that will] utilise modern, digitally-enabled technologies, such as simulation and virtual reality, to offer a wide range of accessible, practical, and flexible learning options”. The draft PoM states that the centre is “TAFE NSW’s commitment to the Clarence Valley, and its continued endeavour to provide students and employers with access locally to world-class education and training”. “Government funding will be used to construct the building and surrounding car park and landscaping,” the draft PoM states. “The building is expected to be completed and ready for occupation in December 2018, subject to relevant approvals. “The on-going maintenance and operation of the Yamba Connected Learning Centre will be funded by TAFE NSW.” At the December meeting, councillors also agreed that the PoM include the future “establishment of a Council operated community space incorporating library and meeting space, facilities for Meals on Wheels and playgroup facilities and potential art space”. The site upon which the TAFE learning centre will be constructed will be a “compulsory acquisition of land under the Minister’s direction”, the report to last week’s council meeting stated. “The Centre is proposed to cover approximately 2,300sqm of Lot 2 (total 4880sqm).” “…Council’s community space is currently approximated at 1,450sqm (indoor space) over Lot 1 (total 3,627sqm).” The Pom will be exhibited for 28 days, “allowing 42 days for submissions” and “extensive community engagement”.
