Three wise men often feature on Christmas cards and the Gold Coast City Council must have more than three wise men and women to have come up with a novel idea to encourage local residents to plant more native trees.

All you have to do is show your rates notice at the Gold Coast council office and you will be offered a free native plant for your garden. How good is that?

So after we have elected our new Clarence Valley councillors, what if our new group of wise women and men adopt this great idea from the Gold Coast, for it certainly wouldn’t cost the Earth to introduce such a measure in the Clarence Valley?

Enjoy the festive season and who knows, if we elect the best councillors, next Christmas our children and grandchildren could be planting their very own native plant, a gift to them from the Clarence Valley council?
