Tragedy at Palmers Island

A young child has tragically lost her life on a property at Palmers Island, 9km west of Yamba.

The 19-month-old was reported missing shortly after 10am on May 15.

Emergency services and officers attached to the Coffs/Clarence Police District responded and conducted a search of the property where the little girl was found unresponsive in a river about 20 minutes later.       

Police performed CPR until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived and transferred the child to Maclean Hospital.

Sadly, she was unable to be revived.

An investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.

Inquiries are continuing and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
