Three way play off for BWAC Pro-Am

Friday saw the running of our 3rd annual BWAC Pro-Am with professionals from all over the globe converging on Yamba’s links and with the course in pristine conditions early showers did not deter the morning players. Forty two Professionals from USA Canada, Latvia, Germany, Norway, NZ, Spain, Mexico, Cook Islands, Austria, France and even some from Australia, enjoyed what Yamba has to offer and all having nothing but praise for our town and course. At the end of the day there were three players who returned 69 Gross (4 under) with the play off taking place on the 10th hole. In the play off was Norway’s Olympic hope Tonje Daffinrud, Victoria’s Stacey Keating and Katelyn Must from Caloundra Qld. All three hit great tee shots, landing on the large green and with a huge ring of spectators witnessed the tiny framed Katelyn Must sink a huge 25 foot birdie putt giving her the win as the other two could only muster pars. In the amateur ranks two very large scores were returned by our members, giving them easy victories over the other 100 amateurs. In the men’s Jan Dampney returned 45 points earning him the win from Bruce Lulham 2nd with a very respectable 43 points, 3rd went to Bruce Petith 41pts, Andrew Kelly was 4th with 39pts on a count back from Don Mailing 5th and in 6th place Al Burke returned 37pts. In the Ladies competition 12 year old Jenna Carter who is one of our up and coming juniors rose to the occasion returning 44pts easily beating Carolyn Chester for 2nd with 38pts, 3rd was Glen Czarnota 35pts, 4th Frances Williams from Botany with 34pts Suzie Stokes was 5th with 34pts and Tina Earp ran 6th with 33pts on a count back. Nearest to the pins were; Mackenzie Wright 246cm on the 3rd, Barry Fisher 134cm 9th, Don Mailing 71cm 10th, Matt Oates 12th 118cm, Jamie Pengilly on the 17th at 560cm. Ladies were; Suzanne Scott 3rd 700cm, Kay Murdoch 296cm on the 10th, 12th Narelle Butcher 264cm, 17th Jodie Rockliff 250cm and the Pro NTP was Sarah-Jane Boyd at 160cm on the 12th. Thursday’s shootout was yet another memorable event with hundreds gathering to watch the stars in action. Local amateur Robyn Wiblen picked up $500 thanks to Duncan’s Carpet Cleaning and in the Pro shootout Emma Degroot from just down the road at Sawtell picked up $1000. A big thanks to Col Powell and Duncan’s Carpet Cleaning for their continued sponsorship of the Thursday night shoot out, also a massive thank you to Noel Galvin and BWAC Regional Employment and Community services for their continued major sponsorship and being the driving force behind this successful tournament. Thursday Golf A field of 119 players fought it out for the weekly Stableford with A Grade winner Andrew Kelly finally showing some form, returning 38pts and giving him the win on a count back from Alex Podbereski 38pts, David Miles also returned 38pts awarding him 3rd. A Reserve saw one of the best individual players in the club in Greg LaForest with a 39pts, 2nd was Andy Wilson 39pts and 3rd went to Big John Maguire 37pts. B Grade winner Evan Harris returned the score of the day with 40pts, 2nd went to Noel Bushell who also returned 40pts and 3rd was Martyn Tishler 39pts. In C grade Brian Dwyer carded 40pts to give him the win over Brian Campbell 38pts and 3rd went to Ken Gallagher on a count back with 36pts. NTPs were; On the SeaFire Steak and Seafood 3rd Garry Payne was 159cm, on the Peter Campbell Physio 9th Don Mailing 100cm, the SeaFire 10th Greg LaForest 68cm, the 12th Yamba Barber shop hole saw Andrew Kelly at 140cm giving him the hair cut he so desperately needs and the SeaFire 17th went to Harry Peacock at 302cm. Balls for the day went to 34pts with 19 on the back. Saturdays Monthly Medal Only 105 golfers enjoyed the hot sunny autumn day and with this being the qualifier for the single match play championship good scores were apparently easy to find. A Grade winner with a nett 71 was Greg Little giving him the medal over Terry Laws 72nett, 3rd went to Barry Fisher with 73nett. The Best A Grade gross went to Adam Gemmell with 76 hits. A Reserve medal winner was Kash Robinson who and a great round with 65nett, Albert Fox was a close 2nd with 66nett, 3rd went to Sunny Bill Williams at 67nett. Bert Fox had the best gross round with 80 hits. B Grade winner was Pip Dixon with 68nett from Dave McQueen 69nett on a count back from Bob Burke 69nett and Pip also took the Gross with 87 hits. C Grade winner was the keg man Donny Schlussler with 70nett from Brett Serjeant 71nett and 3rd went to Barry Latham 73nett. Don also took home the Gross with 99 not out. Nearest to the Pins; the 3rd John Wright Pro shop hole Peter Hall somehow finished 236cm, the Peter Campbell Physio 9th Andy Wilson 176cm, on the SeaFire 10th Harold Roberts was 90cm, on the SeaFire 12th Bruce Lulham 180cm and on the Bean Scene 17th young Mackenzie Wright finished 452cm from the hole. Balls for the day went to 73 with 38 ½ on the back 9. Those who marked yes on their card and had better than 78 nett qualified for the match play. Sundays Mixed 2bbb Stableford Thirty six players chased the prizes for this event with the winners Bill and Irene Williams returning 46pts, 2nd went to Guy and Janelle Carpenter with 43pts on a count back from Ann Schumacher and Alan Syle 43pts. Nearest to the pins were; Phil Ramm and Sandra Wallace on the SeaFire 3rd, on the Kahbu Hair 9th Alan Syle and Jayne McCormack, on The Block Café 10th Jan Dampney and Janelle Carpenter and on the Sassafras Pizza and Pasta 12th Bill Williams and Irene Williams took home the prize.
