Three birdies at Yamba for Darrie Nightingale

The weather was magnificent on Yamba golf course on Wednesday when 60 ladies participated in a Single Stableford event. Darrie Nightingale, playing off 6, showed her skill in precision golfing by chipping in for birdies on holes 5, 7 and 14. However, Darrie had to settle for second place in A Grade as Club Champion, Jennifer Fagan defeated her on a count-back. Both had impressive scores of 38 points. Kim Lipscombe was winner in B Grade with 35 points c/b from Di Sigle, also 35. C Grade was won by Sandra Russo 30 with an under par (health-wise) Deirdre Gough placed as runner-up 29. Pro balls went to 31c/b and pins were won by Carrie Aitken – Yamba Medical Centre 3, Lexie Walker – Yamba Florist 3/2, Helen Collins – Yamba Pro Shop 9/2, Margery Allison – Yamba Fair Butchery 10, Pauline McKinnon – The Shoe Boutique – 12, Jenny Muir – Clovelly Fashions 17 and Jane Bonner – The Block 17/2. The raffle was won by Tina Downes and raised $121. The Yamba ladies were lucky with the weather again on Friday when, after a dreary Thursday, the Indian summer returned for a 4BBB v Par Classic Qualifying Round played by 39 entrants. Consistent winners in such qualifying events, Lorraine Luckie and Kim Lipscombe, were triumphant once again with a score of +8. Closely following as runners-up were Moira Morrow and Jennifer Fagan +6, with balls awarded to +4c/b. Pins were won by Helen Collins – Tom’s Chinese Restaurant 3 as well and Peter Campbell Physiotherapy 9, Sandra Dorman – Retireinvest 3/2, Moira Morrow – Kitchen to Table 10, Lyn Rowland – Yamba’s Fisho 12, Virginia Moore – Wato’s Fish & Burgers 17 and Rin Hulka – Yamba Pharmacy 17/2. On a fine, but blustery, Saturday there were 8 who played in the Single Stableford. Winning, with her reduced handicap of 5, was Darrie Nightingale with 32 points from Jane Bonner 31. Kathy Parker was the winner of the NTP. Good luck to all in the Foursomes Championships. Pauline McKinnon
