Work on a new roundabout on Yamba Road and Witonga Drive is anticipated to commence soon after Council confirmed a recently established site office for the project.

The CV Independent has been reporting on the Witonga Drive roundabout since April 2019, when Clarence Valley Council advised as a condition of the development a roundabout would be constructed when Yamba Quays proceeded to further stages, and the developer Clarence Property was responsible for funding a percentage of the roundabout at the intersection of Gumnut Road and Witonga Drive.

In another story in February 2023, Clarence Property said the aim of the roundabout project was to limit the impact on the community.

Then in a story in January 2024, Simon Dougherty of Clarence Property told the CV Independent they were assessing the traffic impact building the roundabout would have and they were considering creating a temporary traffic diversion road to limit the impact.

In early January 2025, movement on the large vacant lot opposite the roundabout site began, with excavators and dump trucks preparing a pad that is now occupied by See Civil site offices.

After receiving emails, social media messages, and inquiries about what was happening on the site, the CV Independent contacted both Clarence Valley Council and See Civil for details.

A representative of See Civil said, “I have forwarded your email onto the appropriate team who will respond to your query,” but the CV Independent is yet to receive a response.

A Clarence Valley Council spokesperson said as required by the overall Yamba Quays Development Consent, a new Roundabout is to be constructed on Yamba Road, intersecting with Witonga Drive.

“A Construction Certificate for the roundabout was issued in 2022,” the spokesperson said.

“The developer, Clarence Property, has been in discussions with Council during 2024 about gaining the final Roads Act approval to commence these works.

“Council staff expect to issue this approval in the near future.

“A temporary site office has been established on the land on the southern side of Yamba Road, known locally as Cannon’s Corner.

“These temporary facilities are associated with the Construction Certificate for the roundabout.”
