The mighty Clarence and its Valley in all its glory

Harry Westera has returned to Cowper Art Gallery and Studio with a new exhibition, Paintings of the Clarence Valley. This new collection features scenes reaching from the headwaters high in the mountains down to where the mighty Clarence River reaches the sea.

There is a wide variety of subjects include cane-fields, bridges, dairy farms, and waterside scenes along the river, down to Yamba and Iluka near the coast. As an added interest on some of Harry’s collection of sketchbooks are also available for viewing in the gallery which gives added insight into the thinking behind many of his paintings.

Don’t miss your chance to see the beautiful artworks that capture the ever-changing light and colour of the distinctive Northern Rivers region. Harry’s direct approach to depicting the landscape enables him to capture the freshness and beauty of the scene before him.

Harry trained in classical oil painting at Julian Ashton’s Art School in Sydney, and also has an Honours degree in Art History from the University of Sydney. He teaches drawing and oil painting workshops throughout the Northern Rivers area as well as adult watercolour classes at Cowper Art Gallery and Studio on Mondays throughout the school term.

Paintings of the Clarence Valley runs at Cowper Art Gallery and Studio until November 14. Open Saturdays and Sundays, 10am-4pm.
