The Angel is divine in Yamba Veteran’s Single final

The much-anticipated final of the 2019 Club Veteran’s Singles Championship was contested on Saturday between defending champion, Bruce Angel, and challenger, Greg Johnson.

The Veterans Championship is contested over 21 ends of play and the crowd of spectators recognised that the two final’s protagonists would produce a display worth watching, and they were not left disappointed.

Bruce started well and after the initial five ends appeared to be in control of the situation, but Greg, displaying the renowned ‘Johnson’ fighting spirit and talent on the bowling green fought back brilliantly to level the scorecard while placing the final outcome in total jeopardy. The next few ends involved the cut and thrust, shot and counter-shot more anticipated at the State Championships currently underway at Ettalong providing for a brilliant display for the increasing number of enthused spectators. The final few ends needed something special for either seasoned verdure warrior to seize the title and it was Bruce, deific in touch and precise in execution, that found a way taking the championship by 19 – 14.
