Ed,
Sanity within CVC has left the building!
I wish to express my thanks to the three retiring councillors (Bill Day, Jeff Smith and Ian Tiley) as well as nominating candidate Greg Clancy on behalf of those of us fighting against the rampant headlong rush to fill the floodplains with (newly cashed up) retirees downsizing from elsewhere, having sold in Sydney or Melbourne and looking for their Nirvana / Xanadu in Yamba. The restrictions of flooding risks have been no deterrent to money hungry developers aided in no small part by the short-sighted, blinkered thinking that local tradies might get some work. The contractors have their teams which they bring with them and don’t rely on locals. I suppose there was a need for local accommodation and certain trades and services but definitely not the “pie-in-the-sky” mass employment touted by at least one lower Clarence councillor.
We NEED to purge those who don’t represent their constituents from the list of candidates and vote for someone who will listen, someone who will consider the greater good for our community, someone who’s not afraid of a town hall full of interested locals seeking information and clarity, someone who doesn’t think that “No public building lasts longer than 50 years”, someone who knows that the money being spent comes from their constituents- the ratepayers!
We NEED Councillors who realise that they are not the only stakeholders.
I wish Bill, Jeff and Ian all the very best in the future and I sincerely hope that Jeff will come back to Council at a later date.
Ian Warlters, Yamba
