Main Beach was a colourful hive of activity last Sunday as Nipper competitors from Far North Coast Branch clubs from Kingscliff in the north down to Yamba, vied for placings in the many events contested throughout the day.

Around 50 of our local Yamba Nippers were in action competing in events on the sand and in the water. Surf conditions were ideal enabling big fields, particularly in the board and swim events.

It was competitors in the younger age groups from Yamba who enjoyed the greatest success with the Under 8 and Under 9 age groups being the standout performers.

The Yamba Surf Club work parties excelled in ensuring that the carnival arenas were setup, buoys were laid, officials were fed, first aid was ready and competitors were looked after. It was a great team effort with visiting clubs once again full of praise for the Yamba carnival organisation.

In the week prior to the Nippers Carnival, the club hosted a very successful Melbourne Cup lunch for 100 people. The club’s event co-ordinator Paula Watts and the social committee and helpers worked hard to ensure the event was successful both socially and financially. Just under $2,000 was raised for the club with the organisers already looking to repeat the effort next year.

Volunteer patrols continue on Saturday and Sunday each weekend and patrol members are reminded of the importance of getting replacements when unable to attend a rostered patrol.

Yamba Surf Club office is open every Mon, Wed and Fri between 9.30am and 12.30pm. Please contact the club for any further enquiries by phoning 66462463 or emailing office@yambaslsc.com.au
