For a bit of fun, this week’s photograph (submitted by her trusty sidekick, Jen O’Neill) shows Jo King pulling out all stops to finish the 14th hole. With one shoe off and venturing into the murky water to hit the ball, she almost reached the green.

Tana Lowe takes Wednesday Div 1 at Yamba

Last Wednesday’s 8th monthly medal and 6th WGNSW event had 70 participants in what could only be described as exemplary weather. Results were close in all three divisions with our best scorers in the low 70s.

The winner in Div 1 was Yamba’s youngest budding golfer, Tana Lowe (73 c/b). Darrie Nightingale was the gross winner, r/up and Div 1 best putter with scores of 84, 73 and 29 putts.

In Div 2, Jane Bonner won with a great score of 71 c/b, just edging out Carrie Aitken (71 c/b). Jane was also gross winner (95) and Jen O’Neill won the putting (28 putts).

Dulcie Nurse played a blinder to win Div 3 and win the putting (29 putts). Terri Collingburn played well to take out gross winner (111) and r/up (73).

Balls were awarded to 76 c/b.

The monthly medals were awarded to: A Grade – Tana Lowe; B Grade – Jane Bonner and C Grade – Dulcie Nurse.

Our nine-hole competition had 12 players for their single Stableford format on the back 9 last week. Sonya McLennan came in with an excellent score of 21pts to win narrowly beating Susie Quilty and Sue Moten (Maclean) who both scored 20pts.

The numbers of players taking part in our competitions just continue to grow as the weeks pass by. Pre-COVID, we were pleased when competition numbers reached 55-60, so Friday’s field of 78 was simply fantastic.

Over the past week, we have welcomed two new ladies, Melissa Rothfield (Div 1) and Kelly Ingledew (Div 2), who we hope will become regular players in our competitions.

The winner in Div 1 was Julie Grant who scored a fabulous 41pts while Leigh Robertson was r/up (36pts c/b).

In Div 2, Lyn Rowland won in a close tussle with Jenifer Moody, both ladies scoring 37pts.

Sonya McLennan was the Div 3 winner (39pts) ahead of Ann Schuhmacher (36pts c/b).

Balls went to 34pts c/b.

Due to COVID restrictions, there are no NTP prizes, but our weekly sponsors are still acknowledged: Flots and Jets; Valley Finance; Peter Campbell Physio; Kitchen to Table; Amie Rose Beauty; Nicholson’s Fine Foods; Yamba Pharmacy; Yamba Medical Centre; Yamba Florist, Debbie May; Leonie May Millinery; Yamba Fair Butchery; The Shoe Boutique; Clovelly Fashions, Maclean and The Wobbly Chook.

Congratulations to last week’s winners and, again, many thanks to everyone for being so respectful of the COVID restrictions which are in place.

This week’s schedule remains unchanged with two single Stableford rounds.

Happy golfing.

Leigh Robertson
