Proficient gelding Aramis (NZ) showed his toughness and strong will to win when the three-year-old son of Contributor (IRE) prevailed in a thrilling finish to claim Race 6, the 2022 Tursa Grafton Guineas over 1600m on July 13.

After beginning slowly from barrier 10, the New Zealand bred galloper settled towards the rear of the 11-horse field before jockey Tom Sherry guided the $3.80 favourite between Gwan So (GB) and Bootscooter inside the final 200m to win by a nose on the line.

Trained at Randwick by Mark Newnham, Aramis (NZ) advanced his race record to three wins and three minor placings from seven career starts.

His success in the 2022 Tursa Grafton Guineas took his career earnings over $85000.

Following the race, Sherry was full of praise for his talented mount, describing Aramis (NZ) as a horse with plenty of ability.

“It was a good race, he deserved to win,” he said.

“He’s a promising horse, and he’ll win more races for sure.”

As he congratulated the winning connections and acknowledged Sherry for a great ride, Marketing Manager for Tursa Nick Inmon said it was an absolute honour for the business to sponsor the race again in 2022.
